The home owners recently moved into the smaller cottage style house and plan to renovate the living space. They have decided to fix the existing crawl space problems before spending money on the upgrades. They have noticed the floors are cold in the winter and has a constant musty smell.
They do not use the crawl space very often but have seen minor seepage along the dirt floors and the space is very musty most of the year. There is insulation in spots on the underside of the first floor between the joists. The previous owner did replace some rotted wood in the structure.
The owners called another company to obtain a quote for repairs. The company did a quick inspection but did not provide a quote for the project leaving the home owners wondering about the next steps. Finally, after numerous attempts to contact the first company they called Advanced Basement Systems.
The Advanced Basement Systems inspector arrived on time and completed a thorough inspection. He prepared a detailed quote for repairs and presented the homeowner with their options on the spot. It was determined the best course of action was full encapsulation of CleanSpace, 3" of closed cell spray foam insulation along the exterior walls to the underside of the first floor and a sump pump drainage system to remove water build up. The final piece to the project was the installation of a high-quality dehumidifier draining into the sump pump.
The home will now have a dry insulated crawl space that will keep the living area warmer and comfortable for years to come. The musty smell will dissipate over time as the mould causing it will die off.
