Attic Insulation Photo Album: Attic Overhaul - Strathroy, ON
In this Strathroy, Ontario home, we completely revitalized the attic for maximum health, comfort, and efficiency. First, we removed all of the old and dirty pink fiberglass insulation. With the attic cleared, we treated the roof deck with a spray application designed to eliminate the black mould that had developed over time on the aged lumber.
Next, we installed proper baffles and damming throughout the space to control airflow, prevent wind washing, and reduce the risk of ice damming. Once that was in place, we applied two inches (R12) of closed-cell spray foam insulation across the attic floor, creating an airtight, energy-efficient seal. To finish, we topped everything with a full R60 of blown-in cellulose insulation for lasting comfort and performance.
This homeowner also invested in long-term indoor air quality and moisture control with our SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier. Years earlier, they had their entire dirt crawlspace encapsulated and insulated by us as well, showing their ongoing commitment to keeping their home dry, healthy, and efficient with Advanced Basement Systems!
Mouldy and Dirty
It's no secret mice love fiberglass insulation. This attic had a lot of issues, step one is to clear out the old insulation to expose the entire floor.
Old
A common sight in older homes. Pink fiberglass doesn't do much for a home that wants to become more energy efficient and comfortable. ABS to the rescue!
Air Barrier
Tim is spraying here. You can see there is in fact a poly vapour barrier, but as with many of them, it is not continuous. There's rips, gaps and holes. The spray foam will act as a continuous air and vapour barrier.
Baffles and Damming
The baffles and in place and the damming is where it needs to be. Now we seal that with spray foam. The air flow from the soffit comes up through the baffles, keeping the roof deck an appropriate temperature based on the season.
Spray Foam Complete
The last step now is to blow in the cellulose insulation.
Cellulose
Our high quality cellulose is applied evenly and that makes this attic job complete!
