Attic Insulation Photo Album: Attic Insulation Removal - Goderich, ON
Vermiculite itself isn’t dangerous, but a large portion of the vermiculite sold in North America before 1990 came from the Libby Mine in Montana, which was contaminated with asbestos. Even small amounts of disturbance (removal, vacuuming, adding new insulation) can release asbestos fibers into the air, creating a serious inhalation hazard.
This product tested negative and we commenced our work. We removed all the old insulation, came in with 2" of spray foam insulation for a full and continuous vapour barrier, new baffles for soffit ventilation and lastly new R60 cellulose!
Vermiculite Removal
Our high-powered vacuum will suck out all this insulation. First we need to remove the larger debris by hand.
Before
You can see this is an old home! We're going to make this attic much more efficient for the entire home.
Spray Foam
The spray foam is used after the old insulation is removed to achieve a vapour barrier. This is needed for a few reasons, but the main one is for when there is no poly vapour barrier installed between the bottom of the joists and the drywall below. It also seals all pipe, wire and pot lights!
New Cellulose
That's a wrap! This job is clean, safe and complete.
