Problem: This multi-level dirt floor crawl space was a challenge successfully met by our crew! The open vents were resulting in cold floors during the winter. In the summer the crawl space was damp and musty; the foul odour affected the entire home.

Solution:  We sealed off the open vents and installed a CleanSpace liner vapour barrier system; which totally encapsulates the crawl space. Our crew also applied moisture-resistant spray foam insulation to help make the home more energy efficient.

Problem:  An open sump pump pit is an undesirable feature in homes: but especially when it’s located within a dirt floor crawl space. Dirt and debris can easily enter the pit causing the pump to clog and malfunction. The open pit adds unwanted excess humidity in an already challenging environment.

Solution:  Our crew installed the Triple Safe™ sump pump and pit liner; a sump pump system designed for crawl spaces. This pump is fully compatible with our complete crawl space vapour barrier system, which the homeowners also had installed.

With regular yearly maintenance, these homeowners now enjoy the comfort of knowing their sump pump system is efficient, working and reliable!

Before

The attic in the home was insulated using 6” fiberglass batt insulation. The R value for this application is approximately R20 while the recommended value for homes in Ontario is R60. The existing forced the home’s HVAC system to work harder and more often to maintain a comfortable living space.

After

Advanced Basement Systems replaced the batt insulation with cellulose blown-in up to a thickness of R60. The result will reduce the energy required to heat/cool the home and meet the recommended levels.

The century home was constructed using stone and mortar for the foundation. During this period of building, basement waterproofing was not overly present. There are several cracks, seepage and spots for moisture to enter. The relative humidity (RH) was at 64% which is perfect for mould growth and wood rot.

Advanced Basement Systems was called to inspect and provide a solution to dry the space out. The best course of action was to fully encapsulate the area with the Cleanspace encapsulation system and then apply spray foam to the walls to seal them.  A new sump pump system was added to help control the water from around the foundation walls and the final step was to include a dehumidifier that would dry the area and maintain it.

Before

Several attempts were made to fix a large crack in a poured concrete basement wall. The material used was injected into the crack and provided a short term stop gap to the leak. Over time the wall will continue to move with freeze and thaw, the movement will make the crack repair useless as the hard material breaks away from the wall!

After

Advanced Basement Systems installed their crack repair system, The Flexispan. The system includes a urethane sealant in the crack, a drywell under the crack to drain the water and a polyurethane sealant on the wall to prevent water from leaking through. The entire system is flexible and will move with the wall as it moves over time.
