New Build Spray Foam - Florence, ON

Before

The homeowner had an old shop with steel sides and roof intended for use all year long. Simple finishing was planned for the interior, which includes proper insulation and HVAC for climate control. Spray foam is a proven method to insulate very well and will help the HVAC system keep the interior work spaces comfortable and warm in the winter and cool during the summer. It adds rigidity to the construction for durability over time along with sound buffering through the walls and ceiling.

After

Advanced Basement Systems applied a 2-lb closed-cell spray foam on the walls and vaulted ceiling to provide proper air/vapour barrier and high R value insulation. Once complete, the shop is ready for the walls and ceiling to be finished.

Spray Foam with DC 315 - Dresden, ON

Before

The owners of the home wanted to update the crawl space to help improve the comfort in the living areas of the home. The work included full encapsulation of the crawl space and spray foam insulation along all exterior walls.

Building code requires a thermal barrier over spray foam insulation in any interior space of a building that is heated or used as living space. This is a fire safety requirement to protect against ignition and heat spread. Areas like crawl spaces, attics, and rim joists often have exceptions, but a thermal barrier is required if these spaces are used for storage or if they have air ducts connected to the living space.

After

Advanced Basement Systems applied a paint based coating on all exposed spray foam used to insulate the crawl space. The coating is specially designed to meet the code requirements for fire safety!

Hot Roof Spray Foam Insulation - Thamesville, ON

Before

The owners converted and existing garage into a workshop and wanted to use the space all year and requested the hot roof method, in which there is no attic and the roof sheathing is exposed and spray foamed.

After

Spray foam insulation was used as an efficient way to provide insulation. The foam will add a vapour barrier and required R-value to the space. The Advanced Basement Systems team has been trained and are certified to work from heights and can get to the peak points in the building.

Renovation with Spray Foam - Clinton, ON

Before

The home owners are completing renovations to the upper level of the 2 story home. They have included proper attic insulation work to help make the older home more comfortable and energy efficient.

After

Spray foam was used on the lower portion of the attic decking to provide an air/vapour barrier between the attic and the living space. This barrier is a vital part of attic insulation as it will not allow the heated/cooled air below to escape into the attic above. Cellulose insulation can then be blown-in to complete the process.

Basement Spray Foam and DC315 - London, ON

This unfinished and uninsulated basement in London needed some spray foam! We also covered the spray foam with DC315 (thermal barrier paint)- but why? The thermal barrier is required for occupied spaces or service spaces (attics and crawlspaces) that house any appliances i.e. furnace, HRV, HWT. The exemption exists only in service spaces that are strictly only running ductwork, piping or wiring. If the area is served by stairs or has access and is used for storage, these areas are considered livable and therefore require the exposed spray foam to be covered with a product like DC315, or with drywall.

This is why spaces with drywall over the spray foam insulation do not require DC315 paint.
