Attic Insulation Upgrade in Petrolia, ON

Before:

Many homes were built using fiberglass batt insulation in the attic. It does add insulation R value but not to the recommended amount for Ontario weather. Adding more insulation on top of the old may not give you the results you need to keep the home comfortable. A continuous vapour barrier under the insulation is a vital component to keep warm air in and cold air out.

After:

Advanced Basement Systems will remove old insulation, then seal all openings in the vapour barrier before adding the required amount of blown in cellulose. 17 inches of cellulose blown in insulation is the recommended amount to bring the R-value up to R60.

If your home has wide temperature swings or the HVAC systems runs often, this could be a sign of attic insulation issues.

Old Home Attic Project - Strathroy, ON

Before

This attic in Strathroy, Ontario was in rough shape. The old pink fiberglass insulation was dirty, damaged, and no longer effective. The roof deck showed signs of black mold on the aging lumber, and without proper baffles or damming, the attic was vulnerable to wind washing and ice damming. Energy efficiency was low, air leakage was high, and the home was losing valuable heat.

After

We transformed the space completely. First, we removed all the contaminated fiberglass and treated the roof deck to eliminate the black mold. Then we installed all new baffles and damming to control airflow and prevent future ice damming issues. Next, we applied 2" (R12) of closed-cell spray foam to the attic floor, creating an airtight seal. To finish, we added R60 of blown-in cellulose for superior insulation.

Insulation Air/Vapour Barrier - Aylmer, ON

Before:

A complete air/vapour barrier is very important for insulation to work best. Many insulation materials will allow air to travel through it as pressure in the home equalizes. Attic insulation is no different. The home was older and did not have a continuous barrier between the living area and the attic. A closed-cell spray foam was applied to provide the barrier.

After:

Advanced Basement Systems removed the old insulation, applied a closed-cell spray foam to provide the air/vapour barrier required. Once completed, 17 inches of blown-in cellulose finished the job to give the homeowner R-60 recommended insulation.

Recommended Attic insulation - Hanover, ON

Before

The attic in the home was insulated using 6” fiberglass batt insulation. The R value for this application is approximately R20 while the recommended value for homes in Ontario is R60. The existing forced the home’s HVAC system to work harder and more often to maintain a comfortable living space.

After

Advanced Basement Systems replaced the batt insulation with cellulose blown-in up to a thickness of R60. The result will reduce the energy required to heat/cool the home and meet the recommended levels.
