Before:
A complete air/vapour barrier is very important for insulation to work best. Many insulation materials will allow air to travel through it as pressure in the home equalizes. Attic insulation is no different. The home was older and did not have a continuous barrier between the living area and the attic. A closed-cell spray foam was applied to provide the barrier.
After:
Advanced Basement Systems removed the old insulation, applied a closed-cell spray foam to provide the air/vapour barrier required. Once completed, 17 inches of blown-in cellulose finished the job to give the homeowner R-60 recommended insulation.
If you are losing heat in the winter, give Advanced Basement Systems a call for all your home insulation needs!
The home owner called Advanced Basement Systems because their home was not retaining heat on the upper levels. The home was older with outdated rock wool insulation in the attic. The old insulation was incomplete and did not have the proper vapour barrier to retain the heated air from below.
The inspector recommended complete removal of all old insulation prior to sealing the attic deck with spray foam. This will complete the air vapour barrier prior to adding a top layer of blown in cellulose! Now the attic is insulated to the recommended R60 value.

Before
The attic in the home was insulated using 6” fiberglass batt insulation. The R value for this application is approximately R20 while the recommended value for homes in Ontario is R60. The existing forced the home’s HVAC system to work harder and more often to maintain a comfortable living space.
After
Advanced Basement Systems replaced the batt insulation with cellulose blown-in up to a thickness of R60. The result will reduce the energy required to heat/cool the home and meet the recommended levels.
